Obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to facilitate fair and ethical outcomes for disputes within your congregations and communities, and to work more effectively with board members, volunteers, congregants, community members and others in both one-on-one and group settings.

This specialist certificate course gives Faith Leaders a solid theoretical understanding of the essentials of conflict management and interest-based mediation, and the skills to resolve disputes confidently and successfully within their places of worship and communities.

Topics covered include the nature of disputes, how to avoid and resolve them, the interplay between power, rights, and interests, managing anger, getting people to the table, the mediation process from beginning to end, essential mediator skills and strategies, the effects of power, culture and trust on disputes, conflict analysis of a complex situation, basic group intervention design, professional mediation ethics and more.

Participants will be given insights into creating and operating an independent faith-based conflict management and mediation practice, and into developing conflict management policies, processes, and systems to de-escalate and resolve conflict in the context of religious, nonprofit, and charitable organizations.

Learning will take place synchronously online through a combination of interactive adult teaching methods including short lectures, expert guests and panels, case studies, videos, demonstrations, small group discussions, interactive exercises, simulations, practice drills, and role plays.
